Concept Generation

In my last class of object design, we were asked to look into remix culture. Which is just basically taking something already made, and making a "new" and updated version of it. The best example for that would be with music, DJs are constantly making mashups of songs or even just editing current ones. This can even be seen with movies, with directors making "parodies" of certain movies. I remember an example of such was shown in class with movie directors adding music that wouldn't normally fit with a scene but then it ends up setting a different mood for the scene. That is sort of what I tried to do with this project, its mostly just things that normally don't make any sense, but when you put them together, it makes a different setting.

 Mesh 1: Weird Car

- With this one, it was my first 3D mashup of the project, and I honestly just did the first thing that came to mind. Not sure why it was this but, it works.

Mesh 2: Take Flight

- For this, I was actually watching Percy Jackson and the lightning thief and noticed some shoes similar to this. I then got inspired to make these.

Mesh 3: Opposite day

- I tried to make a phone using one of us, and then my little brother said it just looks so weird, and he then told me to add a happy face to it.

Mesh 4: Dance until you are dead

- I was getting into the Halloween mood and saw the coffin on thingiverse and immediately thought of doing a skeleton dancing out of it. I added a party hat to make it more festive.

Mesh 5: ?

- This is actually another one that I just sort of thought of on the spot. I was drinking tea, and I really like flowers, so I decided to combine the two and make it look like the teapot was pouring out leaves and flowers, I think this is one of my favorites out of all of the mashups I did.

Mesh 6: Mr. Poppers Penguin

- Once again I was watching movies while I did my school work. (I like to have stuff on in the background to make the process of school a little more peaceful.) I was watching Mr. Poppers Penguins and I honestly just thought of making a little penguin with an umbrella. Gave him a little bowtie to put the look together.

Mesh 7: Out of Water

- Most of my mashups are just random thoughts that came to mind as I was browsing thingiverse, I saw the wine glass and a water ripple and just went from there. I really struggled to cut the water ripple into the shape of the wine glass but, in the end it worked out.

Mesh 9: Water Globe

- I was staring at my snow globe and decided to do a different take on it. I had to make the "globe" myself as I couldn't find an empty one on thingiverse. If I end up using this mashup for the next project I hope I can make a better globe or find a better one to use.

- A sassy skeleton on the phone. What more can you ask for?

Recently, For my object design class at Auarts, I was assigned to watch the documentary "Objectified" by Gary Hustwitz. This documentary focused heavily on the reality and the complex areas of design. The amount of thinking that is required for an object as simple as a spoon or a fork amazed me. This documentary showed how simple and easy to access design will sell better to the consumers. Such as apple, apple has such an iconic and simple look to it, and its one of the most known things in the world. Papercraft Prototype

Starting off, I was terribly sick (and still am) so this part of the assignment is still late. It doesn't help that I spent Monday just messing around with the prototypes of what I wanted to do and making it way more complicated than it needed to be. I wanted to do a flower vase with a bunch of different small flowers in it. I kept over complicating it.  Here were the original flowers (I was even going to do 3 different other types, but I think I will leave that for the next part of the project).  The idea was that I was going to fill the vase with a bunch of random flowers and eventually add leaves, but it was getting too complex just for a prototype. I still want to fill the vase with a bunch of flowers until the vase can't fit anymore, so it looks like a full bouquet.
